Critical Mass

Today i finally made it out to critical mass in orlando. Ive been meaning to go for months now but just havnt gotten my butt nor my bike out there.

It was quite the experience i have to say. There were so many people. so many bikers around. more than ive ever seen in orlando before.

its pretty cool to see all the people out from all around the city raising awareness that there are other means of transportation.

heres a pic i snapped while riding.

Sushi

I tried sushi today for the first time. It wasn't as weird as I had thought. It was actually quite normal.

I like trying new things.

Editors Choice

It was the first project that have really written and directed.

I posted this on a few places since its conception including exposureroom.com

I was notified by a friend and fellow exposure room user that my video had gotten chosen for the editors choice. This means that they people who maintain the website liked my video and put it on the front page.

This is pretty exciting for me because i am up on the front for everyone to see, right next to Philip Bloom, which is an amazing cinematographer. Check his work out here. its beautiful.

Second mobile attempt

So I had ally written out on this new mobile app I got that was supposed to help me to blog more.

Then my phone froze. Stupid app.

I lost everything I was going to say about how this blog originated as a way to keep in contact with friends. And how it no longer serves that perpose because no one blogs.

And that I was going to use this blog for myself. So I could see what I was doing.

So thanks stupid app for erasing my feelings.

ITS A WRAP!!

Today marks the completion of my first debut as a director.

It is a short written and directed by yours truely about a man remembering his untamed childhood imagination.

It has been a stressful, time consuming, wild ride but it has been good.

The first night of shooting went awesome. We basically had everything we had hoped/planned on and it went like butter. The footage turned out pretty nice too i think.

The second shoot was a little rockier but having improvised the entire second that of shooting the day of shooting, id say it turned out alright.

And today, the third and final day of the short time we had to shoot was STRESSFUL. All day from the moment i woke up i had been stressing like crazy. Are we gonna have all the props we need? are the people gonna turn up? will it come out decent enough to put my name on?

After some disappointment with rain, and not having a suitable backup plan i was through the roof. Then after getting hope by a larger soundstage opening up for us, a little hope was restored.

But then the weather cleared up.. a little!!

We scraped the soundstage idea and went back to plan B which was to shoot in the woods behind the backlot.

After 30 minutes of setting up the lighting was too bad and we had to go inside to plan A, which was actually plan B. We continued to set up and shoot inside. After about an hour of increasingly stressful situations we began to shoot.

I think we got everything we needed to shoot, given the circumstances.

Now i just have to edit and hope for the best!

I WANNA GO

itchin for adventure

so i just watched "long way round." a mini series about ewan mcgregor and his mate charley boorman that decide to take a trip from london uk to new york city usa the long way around... meaning east through europe and russia to alaska and north america.

it was quite exciting and inspiring to watch. OH did i mention they did this on motorcycles!

through the rugged non existing roads of mongolia and eastern russia to the open highways for the U S of A.

it just makes me want to get out on the road and have an adventure.

it also reminds me of the good old trip we had from lincoln NE to Whistler British Columbia. That was a lot of fun.

I think that we should continue to do trips like these every few years where we can all come together where ever we are at in life and be able to have an adventure together.

i think we can take on the andes of south america. then the alps of europe and then the japan... who knows.

the death of a good friend

Long story short..... i was in a boat and we were pushing out of the dock. i leaned to push and the chair i was sitting on gave out on me and i fell right in the water... clothing, phone and all. i jumped out of the water faster than.. fast but unfortunatly it was already to late. my phone was dead :(

i tried many things to revive him but it didnt work.



it sucks. i have never had a phone in water before and of course the time it happens its with my good friend iphone.

i donno. its just a possession i guess so its not that big of a deal but man.... ive been having terrible nightmares of the accident ever since!!

Second B - almost half way done

Mustachio Bashio

So this month, some of the guys at school thought it would be a good idea to grow mustaches for the month of July.

The rules were the following:

Grow a mustache

Dont Cut It/trim it/shave it


I made it about 23 days and i finally shaved.

what i learned during my process?

i cannot grow a mustache..

disappointing? yes. i was really looking forward to rocking a nice solid stache for a while.

At The Drive In

Tonight i went to the drive in theater for the first time!

Let me tell you it was quite the experience. I saw the Dark Knight and it was dirt cheap.
4 dollars for a double feature {Dark Knight and Hancock}

although we didnt stay for hancock, it was still quite enjoyable.

It was fun sitting on top of the car under the cool nights' sky with the smell of fresh movie popcorn in the air.

i would recommend the drive in.

SERIOUSLY!?!

Film. plus or minus??

I decided it has been a long time since i shot on film. i thought i would take this vintage nikon f and put it to the test.

this camera is all metal, completely manual, including the film advance lever. the light meter is hardly a meter. it has a needle that bounces from over exposed to under and a prime 1.4 lens. but the truth is i love it.

i just got my photos developed and after eager anticipation. they turned out sour. 1 roll was completely ruined. and the other is obviously my first roll on film in a while.

so.

film is tough
film is raw

good or bad?




this was a photo shot before i got the light meter working. i metered with a digital camera and then tweaked from there.

Commercial

We shot a commercial, finally after a ridiculous amount of confusion and rejection.

here are a few shots from the commercial. i think it came out pretty good.

production

Twilight Zone came and went.

all that preproduction; hours of planning lighting schemes and shot lists, waking up at 4 am with an idea, stressing about locations. over

i want more. production went well, or well enough for a "first time" doing a production. Things were learned and i want to do it again.

12 hours overnight seemed like nothing.

i will post some production stills soon.

So i havnt posted anything for a long time either. I am in Digital Cinematography and Directing this month. For our DC project we are to shoot a Twilight Zone episode.
